This is a very fine quality mid-19th c. micromosaic button bezel set in unmarked tested 14 karat gold with a red-headed brown bird of extremely fine tiny glass inlay (tesserae) in very fine condition and only the lightest of wear. It measures 9/16". The only anomaly are tiny holes, perhaps bubble breaks from the making. People frequently refer to this base as onyx but Roman micromosaics are set into glass, so bubble breaks make sense.
