Specimen Hard Stone in Sterling Silver--Scottish Agate

This looks like the kind of brooch that used be worn on cloaks in the Scottish Highlands--it has that size. It has a very nice sterling silver (tested) engraved mounting and pin. It measures 2 & 1/2" by 1 & 3/4" and is the strangest stone I have seen in jewelry! It looks like fossil material. Two small areas are translucent so I think it is an agate. It's quite a mineral specimen! I believe it is circa 1850. The hues are a deep brick red brown with light to dark grays, black, and white.
