Lacy glass is thought to be of Bohemian origin, late 19th or early 20th century, reknown for its metallic back paint and lacy pressed front surfaces. The color layer is usually painted over with black or silver paint to preserve it. This is a rare treasure and great Valentine's Day gift for the antique button collector! The fuschia pink backed glass button has raised crystal facets shaped like elongated hearts. I don't think the felicity of color and design was serendipitous! These pressed glass buttons are really a marvel--never intended to be wash and wear, and somehow many survived their garments.
This Valentine button is 1" in diameter in excellent condition. The surface luster is rich gold.
