Lacy glass is thought to be of Bohemian origin, late 19th or early 20th century, reknown for its metallic back paint and lacy pressed front surfaces.
The color layer is usually painted over with black or silver paint to preserve it. I just could not get the scanner to do this button justice because it is not brightly colored but a vivid contrast of crystal and jet black with just a thread of red in the design. The black pyramids are crystal, and only painted black on the reverse side of the glass. The crystal stippling sparkles like diamonds! I do not know if the red diamond has any meaning but it is a subtle eye-catcher. This button measures 1 & 1/4" large in excellent condition.
