Anyone who knows old Hobe jewelry will want to give this unmarked beauty a second look. It came from France, and has the typical French "fighting greens"--peridot yellow green and emerald green "mughul" glass cabochons balance the brilliant cut crystals. The brooch is heavy and tests better than sterling silver. The overlay flowers and vines are gilded. It is oval and domed and measures 2 & 1/2" by 2" by 5/8". Hobe started out making jewelry in France, and I have to wonder if this was a 1920s piece of his. Hard to know, but the quality and design is spot on :) I don't recall though seeing the "carved" emerald stones before in any of my old Hobe. It's a lovely spangly whopper.
