This is a fine quality 18th c. Georgian period button of pressed silver foil over cattle bone in very fine condition. It measures 1 & 1/8" and imitates contemporary buttons of interwoven wire. Bone-back buttons were common to the 18th century in a variety of styles, some quite elegant like paintings under glass, rimmed in gold, and backed with bone.
