This very large mid-18th century clothing button is in excellent condition. The subject is possibly Marc Anthony ("Friend, Romans, and countrymen....") painted en grisaille on vellum. The button has no precipitate under the glass as often occurs in these old treasures as various graphics media "sweat". It must have been kept in a safe collection for its long life. The rim is unmarked silver and the back is brass. It measures 1 & 1/2 inches (NBS large).
