A vintage mid century Modernist "twirling" bird pendant by Taxco silversmith Cecilia Tono. The pendant measures 2 & 6/8 inches long with the "twirling feathers measuring 2 & 1/8 inches in diameter. The pendant is a substantial piece of sterling silver and turquoise ,weighing 45.3 grams. It consists of three layers, all held together by a central screw. The first layer is a frame which has the bail , and two stylized cacti ,which show through the second layer of plumes and feathers when twirled. The bird's head, with a turquoise eye), beak and body (set with turquoise) form the first layer, the front of the pendant. The artist's idea is to capture the movement of a bird in nature in a silver pendant. The pendant is stamped on the back of the cacti: sterling, Taxco, 925, and the number "200"; Tono, TC-55. The condition is excellent.
