A gorgeous example of the enameler's art, a large vintage hand made cloisonne` butterfly brooch. The technique consists of attaching silver wires to a heat treated oval of copper, and with that building little barriers, within which the crushed coloured glass powders are applied. At every stage the piece must be placed into the kiln to melt the glass and meld it in place. It takes layer after layer of coloured glass powder, each one kilned. It's a very slow process but the result is beautiful. This brooch is a fine example realized by a highly skilled artisan.
