An Antique Victorian sterling Anglo Indian "Swami " Goddess brooch. The brooch is large and three dimensional , measuring 2 & 1/2 inches by 1 & 6/8 inches. Made in India during the British Raj in the late 1800's , this type of jewellery, with highly decorative Indian religious motifs, from the carvings on the walls of the Hindu temples, was very popular in Great Britain at this time. This brooch has been altered by a more modern safety clasp , which gives it more hold for the contemporary wearer. The brooch tests sterling , though it has no hallmarks or silver marks. The condition is excellent . The brooch weighs 24 grams.
