Spectacular and RARE first edition 46 pages of "The Romance of Perfume" by Richard Le Gallienne with color drawings by George Barbier and published by Richard Hudnut. Starting with the graphics on the front of the book, this spectacular book continues to trace the origins and impact of perfume throughout the ages and the connection between perfume and the soul. From China to Persia, France to England, the role of perfume is discussed. The book is printed on special antique rag paper and ends with a pocket in the back cover. The pocket contains a ribbon bound 10 page booklet entitled "At 20 Rue De La Paix". It details the opening of the salon of Richard Hudnut and how the "subtle, drifting fragrance greets the senses". The booklet contains 4 watercolor depictions of the salon chandeliers, furnishings wall and floor decor. No loose bindings or ripped pages but the back paper cover of the spine has started to split in 2 sections. Fabulous step back in time.
