The Ryrie Brothers of Toronto Canada made this fine 14 K Yellow Gold Bangle set with 3 Amethysts and 6 River Pearls circa 1885. Across the top half of this Canadian made Victorian Era oval bangle are three natural medium dark purple Amethysts. The round faceted gemstones are set an inch apart in mille grained bezels. Each bezel is surrounded with a delicate rope twist trim. Six 3 mm round “button shape” River Pearls are mounted inside of indented hemispheres in the bangle at each side of the Amethysts. Surrounding the larger seed pearls and between each gem the spaces are decorated with the finest rope twist applied cannetille filigree adornments.
The matte finish of the gold has an attractive, slightly frosted, appearance. The “RYRIE” Maker’s Mark, circa 1885, is stamped at the inner center back of the bangle; beside it is the 14 K mark, the letter ”A” and a hallmarked symbol. Ryrie Brothers jewelers have been well noted as providers of the finest silver and gold treasures since 1879. In the early 1900’s Ryrie joined with the famous Canadian firm of Henry Birks & Sons. Their name is an assurance of the highest quality.
The antique bracelet is a simple bangle with no opening, the oval shape helps to slip it on over a woman’s hand and then fit comfortably at the wrist.
Measurements: This bangle will best fit a woman whose biggest mid-hand circumference is NOT LARGER THAN 7 ¾” to 8" around. A bit of lotion or soapy water will assist her in pushing the bracelet on and pulling it off.
Weight: 13.6 Grams Width- left to right inner diameter 2 ½” Height-top to bottom inner diameter 2 1/8” Amethysts- 3 Round Faceted – 7.5 mm diameter – Total Estimated Amethyst Weight = 3 cts. Pearls- White - 6 Round – button shape - 3 mm diameter
Condition: The bracelet is in beautiful antique condition. On the plain back there is one tiny bump-in which measures only 2 mm and it is extremely shallow. It is difficult to see even in the highly magnified photo so I mention it for complete accuracy of description. The back side is plain polished gold with a slightly matte finish. The high quality bangle is in excellent condition; it seats itself well on a woman’s wrist and is exceptionally comfortable to wear.
