Offered here is a Rose Cut Bohemian Garnets Necklace dating to the 1880's; the late Victorian Era. The gilt metal necklace is generously mounted with 220 richly colored, very dark red, tiny rose-cut bohemian garnets. It It is beautifully invisibly collet set in a garland of floret clusters with a layered star centerpiece and a dangling flower.
The central focal motif is composed of a 7/8" eight pointed star layered on a 1 ¼" eight pointed star. Suspended from the bottom of the star is a flower; all encrusted with alluring Bohemian Rose Cut Garnets. This centerpiece measures 1" across the star cluster by 1 ¼" top to bottom on the centerpiece. As the dangle swings the dancing garnets sparkle and glitter and flash that exotic deepest red, reminiscent of a fine merlot; this is the appeal of antique Bohemian Garnet jewelry. It grabs your heart and you can almost hear the violin music as the gypsies dance.
On each side of the centerpiece is a 7 ¼" "chain" formed by garnet cluster links and; the closure at the center back of this "chain of flowers" is a Box and Tongue clasp. The ½" clasp is encrusted with seven collet set round Bohemian Garnets. The necklace measures 16".
The gilt base metal is sometimes called "Garnet Gold", it is yellow gold gilding on brass showing a little wear from over a hundred years of gentle use. I see no sign that it has ever been damaged or repaired. The garnets are well-matched, firmly mounted; all appear to be original and in good condition. The necklace is in excellent condition, it shows lots of soft original patina in the most beautiful way.
