This is a wonderful antique boxed newel post in walnut, dating from the 1890's. The newel begins with a cap with a flat top. Below, the newel post is accented with roundels, followed by a bead-and-reel pattern on the corners of the newel. The sides are ornamented with simple fluting. This box newel post is in very good antique condition, with one crack on the back of the post (pictured) and some very minor chips and dings. The newel is 56 ¼" tall and 8 ¾" wide.
