Offering a set of six antique Minton Tiles from the 1870's. These are from the famous Aesop's Fable series designed by John Moyr Smith for Minton's Enameled Tile - China Works at Stoke on Trent in England. The tiles came from around the fireplace in the children's nursery of an old house we had. These six were favorites of my aunt so she had them framed together.
These tiles have some damage as they were hand chipped from their plaster base on the wall, but have survived looking not too bad at all. The tiles each measure about 6" X 6" and mounted together on wood as they are, measure 42" in length and 8" in height and 1 ½" in thickness. The weight of the whole work is 12 lbs as framing is solid wood even at the back,
The first tile: The Wolf and the Lamb. This has two long cracks and a corner that looks like it may have snapped off and been repaired.
The second tile: The Ape and the Cat and the Roast Chestnuts. Chips around the edges.
The third tile: The Fox and the Goat in the Well. Pretty clean no cracks, minimal chipping.
The fourth tile: The Lion and the Rat. Point of one corner broken off.
The fifth tile: The Hare and the Tortoise Run a Race. Pretty clean chipping along the edge.
The sixth tile: The Wolf and the Crane. Almost no damage.
These are rare, very old tiles. Please look carefully at the pictures as each of them has some damage.
