Offering, a beautiful, antique, hammered metal Christian / religious plaque. It came from my aunt's estate and all I can find out about it, is that it came off an old Catholic altar in Spain, from a church that was being renovated.
It is a detail from a larger Biblical scene. The piece features two people, a man and a woman running, fleeing as it were. It is very detailed in form although whatever gilt surfacing it had at one time is mostly gone.
The sculpture measures 9" in length and about 5" wide at the widest part. It is a hollow relief and was attached I presume, to a flat surface by a hole that you can see from the back view.
The two figures are beautifully done. The woman has her eyes closed and the man is lifting her, helping her to run from something. She is wearing a necklace and he has an ornament in his hair.
It has no rust, just wear from the ages.
