Offering an antique 19th century wood framed lithograph featuring a scene of Jesus Christ laid out before an altar, post crucifixion.
In the glass covered picture, four angels are in attendance and the scene is heavily layered with religious symbols. Jesus' slain body has been laid before an altar on which the host is shown rising in the chalice. On the floor beside him is his cross, nails and a hammer. pincers to remove the nails, a ewer with presumably the wine vinegar. a crown of thorns, the spear that pierced his side, whips and cudgels. There are many blooming flowers and leaves symbolizing life from death.
The frame is an antique gesso ornamentation on wood that measures 20" X 25". The lithograph is quite old but the colors are marvelously vivid.
I have shown the backing where the original probably failed and was replaced with a cardboard.
This piece is as you see it. Antique condition but no major structural damage apart from tiny chips on the wood and a bit of missing gesso here and there. Glass is in excellent condition with no cracks or cloudiness.
