Offering an antique baptismal ceramic basin and water pitcher. This belonged to my great aunt and she brought it back from Italy sometime in the late 1940's. She purchased it at the auction of a small provincial town Catholic church that was being demolished.
The large bowl measures almost 15" across and the rim rises 4 1/2" in height from the base. The pot belly pitcher stands 11" at the lip and measures over 10" across.
The heavy ceramic is a pale cream color with muted brown transfer work of newly leafed branches, perched and flying birds, and a scattering of insects and butterflies.
No makers mark on either base.
No cracks or structural damage. Random chips to the glaze especially on the bottom of the pieces. Light overall crazing.
