Offering a very rare packet of 17 picture posters from 1954 Japan.
These 15" X 10 1/2" pictures, are prints on very heavy card stock and they were used to tell stories. The paper at the back of the last one explains: Paper Picture Show: The Apostle's Creed, presented by, The Society for the Promotion of Friendship Through Paper Picture Shows. This was a post war attempt to introduce Japanese people to Western thought.
These seventeen poster cards tell the story of Jesus through scenes from the Bible. They are drawn in an almost anime style of charmingly bright colors and simple lines. The best part is that all the people in the Bible stories, Joseph, Mary, God, Jesus himself, all have Japanese features. Very interesting.
The card set is in pretty good condition with some age yellowing on the back but no major stains and no tears. The pages are numbered 1 through 18 and number 17 is missing, so you will receive 17 paper pictures total.
