Offering an amazingly beautiful, 19th century carved wood, picture frame and painting.
The stunning frame measures 45" X 40" on outside dimensions and stands 3" out from the wall.
The walls of the frame itself are about 6" in width and fully covered with carved flowers and leaves in wood, plaster, and gesso. The frame is in excellent condition with just a nick or two and one missing flower on the LL corner. The wood work is not flat across but multi-leveled with each level having a different design. There is a sheet of glass mounted over the painting and it is raised up about an inch so as not to touch the surface.
The charming painting of three children is in excellent condition. These three are the first Kemps children (there were seven total), and the boy is William Henry Kemps (1878 - 1964). He was the founder of Kemps Ice Cream and the FER - MIL - LAC Process Company.
He had the Kemps Ice Cream Company in Minneapolis and a company called Crescent Creamery in St. Paul, Minnesota. Kemps-Crescent eventually acquired Marigold Dairies of Southern Minnesota, Dolly Madison Dairies of Wisconsin and the Clover Leaf Dairy Company of Minneapolis. In 1961, the company became known as Marigold Foods selling a multitude of dairy products with the "Kemps" brand name. In 2002, Marigold Foods, LLC became Kemps LLC.
