Offering an antique 19th century Persian Qajar, hand-painted and molded pottery tile. The picture is raised up from the background through gentle molding of the clay which produces texture and depth.
This tile is framed in wood and the whole thing measures 10 1/2" X 8". The visible parts of the tile measure 8" X 6". This is a very heavy piece for its size.
The somewhat primitive painting is of a horseman falcon hunting. The grass at the bottom of the picture and the stylized blue sky above are also raised up from the yellow background.
Crazing but no chip or cracks. The old backing on the frame is slightly loose but still whole.
