Offering a gorgeous, antique, completely hand made netted Mondano lace table cloth ~ also known as needle lace or drawn work. Netting dates back to the days of sailing ships when sailors mended their nets. There have been pieces of netting lace found in Egyptian tombs. Netting is done with a shuttle similar to a tatting shuttle.
This tablecloth measures 73" X 58" and was made sometime at the turn of the last century, by a member of my extended family. It was always called the edelweiss table cloth, so I suppose the small flowers it is covered with are those.
The color is a light ecru and I think the material is linen. The design is a wonderful, complex geometric pattern accented with small flowers.
I didn't notice any stains or broken bridges or bridle pulls.
In great condition for it's age.
