Offering an antique, framed engraving by Luigi Schiavonetti.
This is a picture of three children playing, one of them dressed up as a ghost to frighten the others. The work is entitled, The Ghost or L'Apparition (French).
On the back of the frame is a piece of paper cut from the original plate when it was mounted. It says: Plate XXXV - The Ghost (L'Apparition) - R. Westall. London, Published March 1, 1791 - T. Simpson, St Paul's Churchyard - L. Schiavonetti.
The framed piece measures 14" X 17 1/2". The visible part of the plate measures 6" X 9".
The picture is exquisite, as is the framing. The edge of the gilded wood frame is mirrored, the matting is in a blush velour, and there is a second mat in gold paper.
The back of the frame where the information is adhered, is covered in a very old, odd black paper that looks like a reptile skin. This is worn in places.
Such a beautiful engraving and in excellent condition.
