Offering a rare, illustrated children's book by AA Milne. This is, A Gallery of Children, illustrated by H. Willebeek le Mair, under the pseudonym of Saida.
Published by David McKay Company in 1925, this is the first American edition.
This book measures 12 ¼" X 9 ½". It does not have a dust jacket.
The original blue boards have gilt lettering to both front board and spine.
The front board has a plate pasted on surrounded by a gilt border. The boards while not broken or detached are faded and lightly soiled. Edges are frayed and bumped.
There are 105 pages and all are present if slightly yellowed.
There are twelve A.A. Milne stories:
* The Princess and the Apple Tree * Sparrow Tree Square * The Twins * Miss Waterlow in Bed * Sand Babies * Poor Anne * A Voyage to India * Barbara's Birthday * The Baby Show * The Magic Hill * The Three Daughters of M. Dupont * Castles by the Sea
There are also 12 full color plates, one for each story, drawn by H. Willebeek le Mair alias SAIDA.
All plates are in very good condition except for two;
(Sparrow Tree Square) has neatly detached itself from the spine. It is clean and un-foxed, the page just pulled away without tearing from the stitches of the binding.
(The Princess and the Apple Tree) is also clean and un-foxed. It is still attached but has a short straight tear ¼" from the spine side. I see that it is from a binding that may have originally been too tight.
