Offering five little 4 1/2" tall dolls from Europe. These are very old and I think they may be Polish or Russian or from somewhere in that area. Each doll is hand-made and is basically cloth wrapped around wire. The arms can move up and down together as they seem to be one piece that runs through the body. The legs are fixed but bendable.
The faces have a surface of perhaps clay or composition material that was smoothed and formed over a base and then hand painted. The surface material of these faces is slightly peeling here and there.
The clothing is mostly hand sewn and generally includes a head scarf, an apron over a dress, an underskirt and little knit shoes.
The doll in the center is mostly cloth I think. Her arms also move up and down together and in one of them she is carrying a white dog or lamb. Her face is hand painted. Her underskirt is hand knitted.
These dolls came here to the US in the early 1900's. They are lightly soiled and have the peel problem with their faces but otherwise they are in pretty good shape.
