Offering an original pen and ink study by artist Cyrus Maynard Running.
Cyrus M. Running (1913-1976) was an American regionally distinguished painter.
I have two of his original drawings, both from his time at the Instituto Allendo in San Miguel, Mexico, where he studied in the 1950's - 1960's.
This one is called, At The Door, and features a pregnant woman with two smal children, standing in a doorway. The drawing still has the pencil mark outlines, under the ink lines. It was created on heavy white paper and is mounted on cardboard, with a beige mat over it, meant to be framed later. The dimensions of the visible part of the actual picture are: 4 3/4" X 9". The dimensions of the cardboard mount are 10 3/4" X 15". Clear cellophane envelopes this artwork. The artwork has no damage at all. Probably sold in a gallery as there is a number 37 on the back.
Cyrus Maynard Running was born in Veblen, South Dakota, on August 2, 1913. Both his parents were born in America but had family ties to the Trondheim and Nordfjord areas in Norway. Running received his grade school education in Montana and Idaho but was in high school from 1926-1930 in Zumbrota, MN. He attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, where he received his BA degree in 1934, majoring in history and biology. He continued his education by doing graduate work at Yale University School of Fine Arts where he studied for two years. He received his MA from the University of Iowa in 1940 where he studied with Grant Wood.
