Offering a 22" tall, antique Satsuma Japan vase / urn.
This gorgeous vase with an extremely intricate design is well over 100 years old.
I believe this is what is known as Kyoto design. On each side of the top are slip clay applied handles in the shape of lion dogs - foo dogs, holding rings in their mouths. Each side of the vase has a different traditional design; one side shows a grouping of peonies and the other a Samurai scene. Gold, black, red and white raised moriage accents all the designs.
The vase has a rough cut, unglazed, rim with small chips or dips showing its hand made nature. I believe this is typical of the EDO period. The rim is edged with black. The bottom is also rough and shows much age but the body of this vase shows no chips or cracks. This belonged to my aunt and as far as I can tell it was always in her family.
Shipping and insurance is included in the purchase price of this rare vase.
