DESCRIPTION:
This is a really darling and quite rare 12” Antique German Bisque head doll made by the Bahr & Proschild Co. for the French market circa 1888-1895. This company was founded in 1871. From 1871-1888 the bisque doll heads were marked only with a number. In 1888 the initials DEP were added indicating competition with the French market according to research.

What an impish expression this sweet and rare doll has. It is marked 297 dep and is dressed in his original white cotton sailor costume consisting of a jacket with sailor collar, long sleeves, little metal anchor buttons, knicker length pants with 2 pale blue stripes sewn up each side and an adorable puffed sailor hat with matching blue cording around the brim. There is a small square piece of cloth with dark blue and white stripes tucked into the bodice to represent a sailor shirt. The clothing is VERY fragile and was pulling apart and fraying in areas, so I added mending tape inside, mostly on the sleeves and pant legs. I really don't want to undress him again, so will wrap him carefully with clothes on for shipping and pack the hat separately.

The coolest thing he will come with is what I believe are his original, tiny, toy binoculars on a gold antique watch type chain. They are very unique. There is also a vintage brass ship connected to a little round wood box that he came with him originally, so it will be included as well.

His bisque head is perfect with NO chips, NO cracks and NO repairs. He has a soft creamy complexion with nicely blushed full cheeks that have NO rubs. Sleep eyes are dark brown and work well with delicately painted upper and lower lashes. Brows are shiny, multi-stroked and set closer in the center in the French style. He has a cute upturned nose, tiny pink lips on his open mouth with 4 upper teeth showing. The teeth are set back a bit giving him a darling pouty expression. There's also a dimple in his cute double chin and pierced ears. I don't think he ever had earrings being a boy, but you certainly could add at least one perhaps with a tiny anchor on it.

Original blonde mohair wig that is a bit sparse and has some glue in spots, but looks good with the hat on.

Original, early peg and elastic strung 5 piece body in good condition for it's age. Below the knees are painted white to represent stockings and lower legs are molded boots with low heels painted black with some rubs. I restrung the body securely as it was done originally with a metal wire hooked to the leg elastic inside and pulled up through the head to hook over the back rim. I added a small piece of kid leather under the hook to protect the bisque.

If you don't have a boy doll in your collection, this would be a fine one. He's a little rascal, so keep your eye on him:)

Thanks so much for your interest and for stopping by. Don't forget you can Make An Offer, all reasonable will be considered and you can also take advantage of 10% off any item over $50 if you pay with a check or money order.
