DESCRIPTION: Are you looking for something really unusual for your collection? Well this rare doll might be it. She is a rare and unusual 14 inch tall doll with a papier mache composition head and carved wooden arms, hands, lower legs and feet. The hands and feet are strung and are MOVABLE, so unique. She is definitely a survivor from the mid 1800s and was well played with by some lucky little girl. The manufacturer was the Cuno Otto Dressel Company in Germany. She is stamped in purple on the back of the shoulder plate with the Holtz Masse flying bird logo. And, on the front of the shoulder plate are the words 'Wesch' and I think 'Erch'
The papier mache shoulder head has molded and painted facial features and very curly black center part molded black hair that has paint loss overall on the high points and a short chip on the left side under the ear. Lips are painted pale pink with a center accent line and matching nose dots. Cheeks have remnants of blush and you can see faint brows. The paint is worn off the pupil of the left eye and there are 3 craze lines on the left forehead eye area. Her body looks to have been recovered at some time in the past with white linen.
She wears a wonderful antique costume that I believe is original to her. It includes a very full cotton gingham skirt with attached design around the hem that matches the front button jacket with ruffled bottom and long sleeves. The top front where it covers the shoulders is fragile and frayed and has patches on the inside. Attached to her right arm is a sweet little taffeta purse.
Her boots are adorable brown leather ones with two side buttons and little black heels. The right boot comes off easily and is in fairly good condition, but fragile. The left boot I did not try to remove as it has stiffened with age and is brittle. The original white cotton knee high socks are also there and in good condition.
She also wears lovely white linen antique hand made underclothing not as early as the doll. There are two petticoats, one with ric rac trim and the other with a wide ruffle around the bottom. She also wears antique white cotton lace trimmed pantaloons. All 3 pieces are threaded with string to gather and tie tightly to fit.
She's a great little, very unique doll with the movable hands and feet to add to your collection. Don't forget to Make Offers, we will consider all reasonable ones.
Thanks for your interest,
Dolly hugs, Bonnie
