This is a fabulous older vintage Christening gown of fine, sheer white cotton lawn or batiste. It is 36” long with 6 rows of pin tucking and delicate inserted lace around the lower skirt. Just perfect for a baby’s baptism or for your favorite baby doll or even a bear.
The hem is trimmed with a 2” wide embroidered lace ruffle. The bodice made of open cutwork in a daisy pattern and is lined with sheer white linen. The sleeves are trimmed with, what I believe is, broderie anglaise lace. Circa early 1900s. All of the stitching appears to be very finely machine done. I’m not an expert on fabrics or lace, so you may perhaps know more about what the types of lace are called.
Condition is very good. There are a couple of tiny holes on back of the skirt, tiny area where hem lace has pulled from the fabric, easily fixed with a stitch or two which I will do before shipping. And fraying around the edge of the hem ruffle. It’s being modeled by my 20” pudgy Kammer Reinhardt character baby (which is not included with this gown, but is for sale in my shop if you are interested.)
I will include a long, vintage slip with the gown as well. It is not a match, but you would need it since the gown fabric is so very sheer.
Measurements are: 36” length neck to edge of hem
7” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
6” around the neck opening with snaps that I added in back
16” circumference under the sleeves
5” sleeve length
5” around sleeves. The sleeves are quite snug on this doll and do not have much stretch.
If you need any further measurements please email me.
Thanks so much for your interest.
