This is a 28" antique German bisque head doll. She is a big beautiful girl by J.D. Kestner with 'real' hair brows. Research indicates that the open slits where hair could be inserted to appear as real brows was the idea of Louis Steiner in 1910, but the patent was give to George Borgfeldt who represented the J.D. Kestner Co. We have another Kestner 196 with the real brows in our shop if you might be interested.
Made in L. Germany 15. 196
This girl also has deep brown sleep eyes that work well and have most of the original wax on lids intact.
Delicately painted lower lashes. Her brows are open slits that have inserted hair. Some of it has worn off from the backing over the years. She would have had upper lashes originally which have also worn off over time. She has full, well blushed cheeks, with NO rubs, only a tiny scratch on the right cheek. Open mouth with four pearly upper teeth showing. Lips are shaded and outlined in deep pink with matching nose dots and eye dots.
She has lovely pale bisque and softly blushed cheeks with only one tiny rub on the lower left cheek. Her bisque head has NO chips and NO repairs. There is an nearly invisible, short, 1" old hairline above her left brow. I couldn't get it to show up in any pictures as it can only be seen with a loop. Therefore she is very reasonably priced. It does not take away from her beauty and she still displays beautifully.
Her dark brunette human hair wig is her original and has been tied in braids on each side. It's very full and in good condition..
Her 15 piece, ball jointed, composition body is also her original. It has been tightly restrung. The upper arms and legs have restoration and repaint professionally done. It is stamped in red 'GERMANY 5 3/4
She has beautifully articulated hands and fingers with the left little finger rebuilt in the past.
She is dressed in a pretty antique dress that has been tailored to fit her... It's sheer white cotton with beautiful white floral embroidery all over the skirt, lace insert at the bodice, lace trimmed sleeves and scalloped hem. A black sash is tied around her waist with a big purple velvet flower pinned on the front. A matching silk bow is on top of her hair and pigtails are tied with purple silk ribbon as well.
Her undies include an antique white cotton chemise, antique white cotton petticoat with pin tucking and lace around the bottom, white ribbed stockings, and antique black oil cloth shoes with original ties.
All of my dolls carry an antique hanky. This one is white cotton with variegated purple embroidery around the edge.
Thanks for your interest in my items. I have many other Display Ready antique dolls in my shop if you are interested and don't forget you can Make Offers on any DESIGNATED items. This doll is already priced low, so I won't be able to take offers at this time.
Dolly hugs, Bonnie
