This is a very beautiful 27" antique German bisque head doll by the Charles M. Bergmann Co. They commissioned the Simon & Halbig Co. to make the bisque heads for them. This doll was likely made in the late 1890s due to there being no 'Germany' incised on the back of her head. This was only required after the turn of the century for imports into the US.
Marked: CM BERGMANN
SIMON & HALBIG
Bisque head has NO chips, NO cracks and NO repairs. There are some wig pulls mostly on the back of her head from someone who removed her wig carelessly.
Lovely creamy complexion with highly molded, multi-stroked brows and delicately painted upper and lower lashes.
Huge chocolate brown sleep eyes that work well. All of the lid wax is intact. Shaded and outlined peachy lips on her open mouth showing 4 pearly upper teeth.
She has pierced ears with NO chips, wearing aqua blue glass bead earrings.
Her cheeks are very full and nicely blushed with NO rubs.
Nice original 15 piece ball jointed composition body. It has it's original finish with minimal restoration and nicely articulated hands and fingers.
She is wearing one of my loveliest antique dotted swiss gowns with very full sleeves and a wide lace bertha collar that covers the lined bodice and shoulders. It has a few mends on the skirt. I threaded white silk ribbon through the cuffs to gather them tight for a nice fit. Neckline and cuffs are lace trimmed and the waist is tied with an aqua blue silk ribbon sash to match the bow I made for her hair.
The lovely wig is her original blonde, human hair one in very good condition. It has long soft curls and waves that fall down below her shoulders and back.
Undies include a matching onesie and half slip with blue embroidery on the hems, another longer antique petticoat with rows of pin tucks and crocheted hem over that. Stockings are older vintage lacy ones and shoes are replaced, hand made aqua blue kid with gold buckles on the toes.
She carries a pretty white antique hankie with white embroidery on the corners and wears a gorgeous aqua blue stone floral brooch.
This is a darling girl with a sweet personality. She makes friends with other dolls very easily. I know you will love her in your collection.
Thanks for stopping by. Bonnie
