I think this is just wonderful. This British sterling silver fob seal is 18th century - about 1770, and has a man-of-war ship in full sail on the seal matrix. This seal would have been worn on a watch chain, and most likely would have been a Captain's seal as it is silver, beautifully detailed, and would have been expensive to make.
When you look closely at the seal, the inscribed war ship has 3 masts, flags, pennants, the 2 rows of cannons, and even a figurehead. All these are very clear, even on this fairly small surface. The seal is 1" high by 3/4" in length, and 5/8" wide. The condition is just what you would hope it would be - just enough wear to show its age. It is in fact in very nice condition, and very hard to find.
