Here's a handsome antique French cast iron letter clip in the form of a duck's head made around 1880. It is 5 1/4" long, 1 1/8" high and about 1" wide. This letter clip was sold in the famous Au Bon Marche which started in the 19th century in Paris and is thought to be the earliest department store of modern times. The clip is made of nickel plated cast iron. The clip works well and is nice and tight. The condition is very good with only slight imperfections on the surface. The original glass eyes are still there to look up at you.
The clip is marked with the marker JHP Paris and is marked in 2 places. It also is marked Au Bon Marche and Depose ( a French word similar to Patented in English).
