Here's a very nice U.S. Navy padlock and key from World War ll, or perhaps earlier. I have seen these referred to as cabinet locks, so that's how it could have been used or for locking up something else on board. Both the padlock and the key are marked "U.S. Navy" and on the back it's marked "Sargent". The padlock in the closed position is 2 3/8". The chain and key stretched out are 10 1/2". The lock works well.
I haven't seen one as well preserved with the chain, key and key ring all in place. Nice gift!
