Here's an amazing advertising broadside from the late 19th century to advertise Santa coming to a large store. The beginning of the tradition of meeting Santa at stores started in the 1890's and caught on fast. The depiction of this early Santa is quite fascinating with his bag of toys as he gets ready to head down the chimney.
This wonderful and rare paper poster or broadside has such fascinating language like " Santa Claus, Real and Live! Two hands two feet and two real eyes." I haven't been able to discover more information about this store and the location of the "Mammoth Store" (Grisier, Gallup & Marquis) in Greene County. There are a number of Greene Countys in the U.S. - I would love to hear if anyone has some information about the store, or the company.
The piece is 18" long by 8". The color of the poster is a light brown. The broadside is overall in good condition for its age. The paper is rather sturdy. It does have a few tears on the edges - 3 or so. I have shown a back view with the early repairs made with a cloth type tape - which does work to make the front look quite good. On the top is a tiny hole where it most likely hung originally with a tack. Again, the overall appearance for this antique survivor is really great.
I hope it finds an appreciative buyer - it is wonderful.

This exciting store is an eclectic "Curiosity Shop" for the Lover of wonderful old things.
Lots of variety and a wide range of prices is what we offer. I think it's more fun that way!
