Stanhopes are a wonderful collectible area. The invention dates back to the middle of the 19th century. Basically, it's a lens with a tiny photograph, or microphotograph attached to a lens. The stanhope lens has been incorporated into many different types of things over the years- jewelry, pens, charms, sewing items etc. I've had so many, but I've never seen thing one. It's a keyring with a car's steering wheel, and when you hold the lens in its center to your eye, you will see an image a girl praying and the full Lord's Prayer underneath.
The key ring measures 3 7/8" in length. The steering wheel itself is 1 3/8" in diameter. The condition is excellent. It was made in the 1950's, near the end of the production of these wonderful novelties.
