Here's probably the best baby rattle I have ever had, and it's in remarkably good condition dating from around 1900. It's 4 1/4" long and just about 2" across at the widest part. This sterling silver rattle is made is the form of a Court Jester, complete with cap and bells and ruffle. He's an amazing character. At the bottom is a whistle that works beautifully. On the back is a ring to wear it on a ribbon that was sometimes used by the Nanny or mother. They tended to use the rattle to amuse the child but didn't usually let the baby handle it.
Made by Gorham around 1900 this rattle is a really rare. And the condition is close to perfect. I have seen only one other like it. It was online and it's twice what I'm asking. It's a really superb piece for a collector or for a very lucky baby.
