Here's a Staffordshire Pottery figure of a sweet cat dressed up with a blue bow. He is 7 3/4" high and about 5 1/2" across. The Staffordshire cat figures are much less common than the dog varieties, so it's a good find. And, It has good age. The seam shows is was made in 2 pieces, in 2 separate molds and then put together. This is what you want to see in a true antique. Modern pieces are made by slip casting in a single mold, and have a hole in the base to pour out excess clay during the making.
I would place this cat as late 19th century about 1890. The condition is very good - there is one slight crack near the base that happened in the original firing. Its at the bottom of the photos that show a front view. It is not very noticeable.
These Staffordshire pottery cats, like the dogs were made in pairs - but there's no charm lost on this sweet single guy.
