Here's a very unusual Black Forest piece. It's little Red Riding Hood - also called Little Red Cap in parts of Europe and she's posing with the infamous wolf. It's 9 3/4" high and base is 6 3/4" long. The carving is so expressive. You can see the surprise and concern on Riding Hood's face as the wolf below looks menacing. The clever additions of some color here and there are so well done. There is just the right amount of color to show her red cap, her blue eyes and even the green drool on her dress from the wolf!
Done sometime around the 1930's, this is really a special carving - very much a sculpture in wood done with great skill.
This piece is part of the Peggy Rice Collection. She passed away recently in her mid 90's and spent much of her long adult life collecting Little Red Riding Hood items of all kinds.
