Here's a very pristine pair of silver gilt Art Nouveau lorgnettes from around 1900. When closed, they are 5" long, not including the ring on the end to hang it from a chain or ribbon. When you open the lenses, the spring mechanism works beautifully. The raised design of a flower is perfectly executed and detailed. They are marked "Sterling" on the inside of the area where the lens go, and there is also a maker's mark which I need to research further.
The lens in the glasses can be changed but they are basic reading lenses at the moment, and would just give a bit of help to for a lady to read a menu or perhaps a program at the theatre.
This exciting store is an eclectic "Curiosity Shop" for the Lover of wonderful old things.
Lots of variety and a wide range of prices is what we offer. I think it's more fun that way!
