This is a great example of the home craft of pyro art - popular in the mid to early 20th century. This shield shape plaque is 19" long by 15" across and depicts 2 deer and the branch of an oak tree complete with acorns. Although many of these drawings burned into the wood were done with equipment sold in kits for use at home or cottage industries, this one is very well executed. The shape of the piece is also very novel and interesting. In my estimation the plaque dates from around 1910 and is just a lovely decorative piece.
