Here are 2 very fine wood carvings from Meiringen in the Swiss Alps and signed by J. Baud, a known carver to aficionados of Black Forest carvings. As one studies these carvings the details never fail to impress, from the man's buttons and tiny watch chain to the treatment of the open coat which looks like it just fell open. They are 11" high and in very good condition, although a tiny restoration was done on the end of the man's pipe. They are from the second half of the 19th century. They should be, in my opinion, considered as sculpture and fine art. Somebody has got to take these two wonderful characters home and just stare at them.
