Here's a wonderful baby rattle circa 1900 with two scenes from the nursery rhyme - This Little Piggy. On one side the pig is going to market on a horse, and on the other side the pig is staying home and reading in a rocking chair. The images are just great. The rattle is 4 1/4" long, and the circular part is 1 7/8" wide. The rattle section is sterling silver, and is marked "sterling". The handle is a nice thick piece of mother of pearl. The rattle makes a nice simple rattling sound. The condition overall is good for its age, but it's not perfect. The sides of the silver rattle are a little dented as shown in one of the photos. The silver has a slight split in the seam on the side, near where the mother of pearl is attached, as seen in the photos. I definitely think the charm and quality of the rattle outweigh it's short falls, and I have marked it accordingly. Personally - I love this rattle even with the wear that shows that it was used and loved over its many years.
