Here's a really exceptional set of demitasse spoons made in 1951. They are from Mappin & Webb of London and are sterling silver gilt and enamel. The enamel is beautiful guilloche enamel work which has engine turned design in the silver under the enamel. Each of the six spoons is a different color. The classic coffee bean is at the end of each spoon. The set is in its original elegant Mappin & Webb fitted box. The box is marked - Mappin & Webb, London and has a patent number on the rim of the box. Each spoon is fully hallmarked with the date letter for 1951 and the sterling silver standard mark. Each spoon is also marked "Sterling England".
The spoons are 4 1/16" long and 7/8" wide at the widest point. The set of spoons weighs 56.6 grams. The box measures 6 1/4" by 5 1/2". The spoons and the box are in very good condition - the box has very slight wear on the outside - the spoons are all really perfect.
These are a great potential gift - perhaps for a wedding. They also would be great fun to use - colorful, novel, and well made.
