This wonderfully crafted Scottish dirk - shaped brooch is 3 3/4" long. The pin is set with agates including jasper and bloodstone. There are foiled crystals mounted above the agates and the brooch is set in sterling silver with the pin back made of steel for strength, as they often were. The brooch is created in the form of a dirk or knife, the type that was quite long and heavy and carried in a man's sock for easy access. The piece has great work all over it including the silver which is decorated with hand engraving. It's in very good condition, especially remarkable as it dates from around 1880.
