Here's a wonderful figural carved wooden button hook in the form of a Native American chief. It's hand carved and hand painted, and it has glass eyes. It measures 4 7/8" long. On the side is written "Mt. Pocono, Pa." It was made as a souvenir from Mt. Pocono in the Pocono Mountains or Poconos. It dates from around 1900.
This is a very unusual form. I think it is a great little piece of folk art and a nice sewing collectible too. The chief has a great expression, and it's very nicely carved. Even the metal hook to hold the button has a very nice form. The gold band on his headdress and the black hair complete the image.
It would be a fun addition to a button hook or sewing collection, or for those of us who just love unusual antique things.
