Here's a well made early sterling silver English match safe dating from 1889. It measures 1 3/4" high by 1 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick. It is fully hallmarked. The hallmarks on the inside rim show the maker's initials W.N for William Neale, the sterling standard mark, the town mark for Chester, and the date letter for 1889. On the front of the case on the lid is another sterling silver mark. There is a beautiful monogram on the front which appears to be "SS". The condition is very good. The lid closes securely and closes nicely with a snap. There are a few slight dents, one small dent is on the top left corner as seen in the photos. I am pricing this accordingly, but the wear overall is not that noticeable. It look very good.
This is a 132 year old beautifully made match safe or vesta. Some people repurpose match safes for pills, but I think it's just nice to have.
