What a pretty little French dragee box with an image of a lady holding a fan, and dressed in a lovely gown in an outdoor setting. This beautiful scene was done in reverse painting or eglomise under it's domed glass lid. A brass frame holds the glass in place and another frame secures the bottom of the box. Around the center is embossed brown paper board decoration. This box also has a surprise inside of an added feature. There is a floral petit point disk which fits perfectly in the bottom. It isn't glued down - it can be lifted out, but it's a nice extra element.
The box is in very good antique condition with only very slight signs of age or wear. The box measures 2 3/4" in diameter. It dates from the mid 19th century. I haven't cleaned the glass - it could possibly use a slight clean around the edge of the glass. But I probably will leave that to the next owner.
I was very happy to come across this little gem.
