Here's a truly wonderful carved wooden monkey with such personality. Just look into those brown glass eyes. This was made in the late 19th century as a wall pocket to hold or stash something. It measures 5" across and 5 1/4" up and down. He stands out from the wall about 5" as well. He was probably made in Britain where some wood carved snuff boxes in the form of monkeys and other animals I have owned looked very similar, although smaller scale.
Being functional and a wood carved item the monkey would be in the treen category. That's a favorite category of mine, and this is a fun and beautifully carved example.
